THE POSITION
Water Treatment Technician/Operator, Highland Industrial Park, Inc.
LOCATION: Camden, Arkansas
DEPARTMENT: Shumaker
CLASSIFICATION: Hourly/ Full Time
SUMMARY
The Water Treatment Technician/Operator works directly for the Water Treatment Supervisor. This position performs day to day duties necessary to operate the water systems of Shumaker Public Services Corp. (SPSC) as directed by the Director of SPSC or the Water Treatment Supervisor. The duties will likely include some overtime and may include work on Holidays if necessary.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Collect water samples.
- Water labs- Alkalinity, hardness, chlorine residual
- Test water quality to ensure pH control systems work.
- Repair manholes- as assigned.
- Repair sewer lines- as assigned.
- Repair concrete raceways- as assigned.
- Wash & rewash filters.
- Grounds maintenance mowing & weed eating.
- Valve replacement.
- Calibrate and maintain equipment.
- Ensure compliance with EPA and OSHA regulations.
- Repair service lines and mains.
- Perform maintenance checks & service on pumps, vehicles, and equipment.
- Check wells daily.
- Routine morning check for water leaks in East Camden, AR.
- Clean, mop, and wax floors of plant as needed.
- Installation of new services and water mains.
- Ability to interact and deal with public concerns and customer issues.
- Rebuild and test water meters.
- Program new water meters.
- Other duties as assigned.
IDEAL EXPERIENCE
- Operator needs Treatment II water license.
- Prior water/wastewater and/or plumbing experience.
- Ability to perform manual labor as needed in all weather.
- Must be able to drag 150 pounds.
- Ability to climb into and out of clarifiers, digesters, lift stations, etc.
- Must be able to withstand work environment of extreme temperatures
A valid Arkansas Driver’s License is a must.
Prior experience with both hand tools and motorized equipment such as tractors, trenchers, etc.is a plus.
EDUCATION
- Must have a high school diploma.
- Any certifications or formal utility training is a plus but not necessary.
- Knowledge about state and federal water quality regulations.
- Must obtain Water Treatment Operator II license within 12 months.
