WATER DISTRIBUTION OPERATOR

Summary of Job Duties: This position is under the direct supervision of the Lead Water Distribution Operator.
The employee will receive training in work methods and procedures; perform manual and semi-skilled construction and maintenance work; operate construction and maintenance equipment; perform clean-up work; notifies customers when water is being shut off for repair work; will be required to perform tasks for other departments and/or areas of the city; other jobs as specified by director. While the position is not a supervisor position it will require the applicant to possess professional supervisory/crew leader skills set while working in the field.
Performs repair and maintenance on water and/or sewer lines, pumps and other equipment, flushes lines, install hydrants and valves, makes necessary repairs on equipment, etc. Assists in the installation, repair and removal of water meters. Assists in the laying of water lines. Locates and repairs breaks in water lines. Makes water taps.
May assist in the repair and maintenance of a variety of heavy and light equipment.
Cleans water and sewer lines and valves, checks line and meters for leaks, assists in the repair of leaks.
Performs general maintenance and labor activities such as traffic control, mowing grass, operating a dump truck, ditch witch, or other equipment, spraying and weed-eating weeds, picking up debris, painting, etc. Performs other duties as assigned.
Equipment / Job Location
The employee will use a variety of mechanical tools, and specialized pumps, routers, etc. The employee will also operate a truck, mower, hand tools, and other equipment.
The employee routinely works both indoors and outdoors and may be exposed to machinery with moving parts, noise, fumes and chemicals, extreme conditions of weather, heavy lifting, etc.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
Knowledge of basic hand tools including but not limited to wrenches, socket sets, picks, and shovels.
Knowledge of underground utilities.
Knowledge of water and wastewater line repair.
Knowledge of general vehicle maintenance in order to check fluids, belts, etc. to ensure safe operation.
Ability to complete reports
Ability to lift minimum of 80 lbs.
Ability to work from verbal, written, diagrammed and phone instructions.
Ability to learn and use related construction safety practices.
Ability to learn to drive standard transmission vehicles.
Ability to perform manual labor in all weather conditions.
Ability to work in confined spaces.
Ability to communicate in a professional manner fitting of a representative of the City of Shannon Hills
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be 18 years old or older
Valid Arkansas Driver’s License
Good Driving Record
Must be available for call outs; nights, weekend, and holidays
Must possess good interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with costumers and other employees
Must live within a 20-mile radius of Shannon Hills
Desirable Qualifications:
2-5 years exp in water or related filled
Knowledge of underground utilities
CDL class B
Grade 1 or higher water license
